From national weather services to World Bank-funded early warning systems — IES has delivered mission-critical meteorological systems across more than 12 countries since 1981.
In 2024, IES and Spanish partner HYDS — involved in the Early Warning System (EWS) "Anywhere for Europe (A4EU)" — won a World Bank project for a fully Integrated Forecasting Platform (Met-WebGIS) and an ARGOS-based Early Warning System for the Tonga Meteorological Service (TMS). Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) was held in May 2025 and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and user training were successfully completed by end of 2025.
In January 2025, IES completed a WMO project to supply and install a complete system for data integration, visualization, surveillance and weather forecasting for the Agence Nationale de la Météorologie (ANAM) in Burkina Faso. FAT was completed mid-2025 and SAT with user training was successfully completed in November 2025. The system is fully operational and was delivered on schedule.
In collaboration with partner New Edge Solutions Ltd., IES was awarded a contract to supply a SADIS and Aeronautical Meteorological Online Pre-Flight Web-Based Briefing System for the Kenya Meteorological Department. Built on the IES WAFS-WebGIS platform and deployed across 10 airports nationwide, Factory Acceptance Testing was completed in 2025 at IES head office in Montréal.
A large-scale project for the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) of Saudi Arabia. Upon completion the system will comprise 600 Automated Weather Stations (AWSs), 600 cameras and 4 LIDAR systems measuring various atmospheric parameters and transmitting data to a central location. IES software handles data collection, processing and alarm generation delivered directly to mobile phones.
A second project for the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) of Saudi Arabia involving the collection of Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay (AMDAR) data from various aircraft. The system provides high-resolution atmospheric profiles to the NCM Numerical Weather Prediction model, improving forecast accuracy across the region.
IES completed a project for an Automated Weather Observation System for Heliport (H-AWOS) across 10 dispersed sites in India.
Development and installation of a Satellite Data Processing Ground Station for INSAT-2E — India's geostationary remote sensing satellite — known as the IMDPS for IMD. The system processes raw remotely sensed data to generate imagery and derived meteorological products.
Installation of a large Water Management and Flood Forecasting System across two major Indian river basins. IES installed 55 Automated Weather Stations with INSAT Satellite Data Transmission, with data fed into the MIKE-11 Flood Forecasting System.
Supply of a network of 20 microwave atmospheric profiling radiometers for the Indian Air Force, in partnership with Radiometrics Corporation.
Installation of web-based Aviation Weather Information Rendering and Display Systems (WAFS-WebGIS) successfully operationalized by the national weather services of Cuba and Somalia.
Installation of IES-developed ULTIMA Aviation Weather Information Processing and Presentation System in Hong Kong, Venezuela, Cuba, Brazil, Somalia, Kenya, Canada, Brunei, USA, Bahrain, Korea, New Caledonia, Malta, Morocco, and India.
Environmental Sensing Capability project for the DND of Canada, involving installation of two MODIS satellite earth reception systems along with provision of related equipment and services, in collaboration with Global Imaging.
Completion of the Tiger Project for Water Resources Management in Morocco, conducted through the Canadian Space Agency.
Installation of a comprehensive weather forecasting and TV weather rendering system at the Bahrain Meteorological Service.
Developed to replace aging multi-drop systems for distributing Weather Charts and Satellite Imagery across Canada. Before VSAT technology existed, IES used custom-made transmitters and receivers to build a network of two transmission sites and 72 reception systems nationwide, distributing weather charts, satellite imagery and bulk alphanumeric data.
This project directly gave rise to the SADIS (UK), ISCS, and the WIFS system of the USA.
IES developed and managed the NCCS — a network of 10 computers across major Canadian cities providing interactive access and data entry for alphanumeric weather data. This replaced a legacy multi-drop network of teletypes, modernizing the national weather data communications infrastructure of Canada.
